Sadhaka is a Sanskrit term which describes someone who follows a certain sadhana, a way of life, with the aim of achieving a certain goal. The term can be translated as meaning "adept practitioner’’, who starts from mechanical practice and go further and practice with deep inner focus, intelligence and perception.
Dr. Suresh, fetal Medicine specialist and founder of prenatal ultrasound and fetal therapy center- Mediscan, is one such sadhaka of our times. He started Fetal imaging in the year 1984 and with 39+ years of sadhana in fetal imaging which goes beyond ultrasound imaging and therapy, developed Mediscan as a multidisciplinary care center for fetal diagnosis and therapy one of its kind in Tamil Nadu. In the year 2010, to be on par with global fetal medicine standards, he established a specialized “Twins” unit with facilities for Fetoscopy & laser for monochorionic twins.
Following is the milestones he achieved in his career.
- Instituted a charity foundation for fetal care, The Fetal Care Research Foundation, Chennai in the year 1993.
- Started education programs in Mediscan to share knowledge and develop ultrasound skills in obstetric practitioners
- Trained over 5000 doctors from India and other countries in Ultrasound and fetal medicine
- To facilitate peer to peer networking of the sonologists’ community as well to exchange information and innovative ideas, to discuss the latest trends in prenatal care, technological breakthroughs and clinical information relevant to prenatal ultrasound diagnosis and genetics, conducts Clinical UltraSound in Practice, CUSP conferences every two years.
- Conferred FRCOG Honoris Causa by the Royal College of London in 2010
- Advisor – Indian Society of Clinical Sonologists since its inception in 2016
- ISUOG Task Force Member & Ambassador.
- Worked closely with NRHM & Tamil Nadu Government to train doctors at PHC in basic prenatal ultrasound to bring down incidence of birth defects.
- Member of the WHO SEARO Expert group for birth defects surveillance and prevention
