Diagnostic and Interventional Ultrasound

MediScan Systems was established by Dr S Suresh and Dr.Indrani Suresh on 15^th August 1982, when ultrasound was still an emerging speciality in India. It was established with the core objectives of

• Providing high quality scan services
• Beyond imaging, providing solutions
• Ensuring accurate diagnosis and generating standardized reports
• Providing these services to the poor, needy and underprivileged

Since then, MediScan has grown to provide varied services including diagnostic and interventional ultrasound and foetal medicine services. Over the years this institution has become a tertiary referral centre not just from all over the country but from the South Asian region both for antenatal diagnosis and foetal therapy

Establishing a high quality ultrasound and interventional ultrasound centre.
Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment which includes high resolution imaging and colour doppler, MediScan not only performs routine obstetric and abdominal scans but also paediatric, small parts and vascular imaging.

To provide high quality and focus for different scanning needs , the following departments have been established at Mediscan . All rooms are equipped with state of the art equipment.

Scan Services at MediScan include

1. GENERAL ULTRASOUND UNIT
This unit performs abdominal , small parts including, breast, thyroid, male genitalia, superficial imaging, musculoskeletal and peripheral vascular imaging

2. GYNECOLOGICAL IMAGING UNIT
Trans abdominal, transvaginal 3D imaging in gynecology . evaluation of patients with infertility , Follicular monitoring , sonosalpingography and hysterosonosalpingography services are provided

3. OBSTETRIC ULTRASOUND UNIT
This unit focuses on low risk pregnancies, early pregnancies , routine target scans and growth scans including doppler and 3D

4. FETAL MEDICINE DEPARTMENT
the following sub specialties function under this DEPARTMENT

• HIGH RISK PREGNANCY UNIT : In this unit all abnormalities are evaluated in great detail and further plan of action is recommended . This unit works closely with the Genetics unit and cross referrals are done in indicated cases . An action plan is provided and communicated with the referring clinician . If further testing is indicated , the couple are counselled and once consent is obtained, they are referred to the Intervention unit
• FIRST TRIMESTER SCREENING: All first trimester scans are performed in dedicated rooms in which the equipment is optimised for first trimester scans and the operators are highly trained. This helps to improve the accuracy of the scans. Screening for Pre-eclampsia and Down Syndrome are also offered.
• FETAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY : This unit specialises in fetal cardiac imaging in the first, second and third trimesters. Visiting Paediatric cardiologist’s facilitate counselling to the couple and help them understand the implications, and to help plan further action during and immediately after the baby is born
• TWINS UNIT :In this unit twin pregnancies are monitored , with a special focus on Monochorionic twins . All complicated MC twins are counselled and if needed appropriate interventions are suggested
• HIGHER ORDER PREGNANCY: This unit specifically deals with triplets are more and decisions and counselling regarding multifetal reduction is provided .

5. INTERVENTIONAL ULTRASOUND

• General interventions: Spanning four decades, MediScan has developed unique skills in the field of interventional ultrasound. A large number of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions like liver biopsies, drainage of abscesses, renal biopsies and nephrostomies have been performed. Moreover, our team of experts is sought by many hospitals in Chennai to perform interventional procedures whenever required, in their facilities. Our Intraoperative ultrasound for neuro-sonography and liver and biliary surgery has also helped the operating surgeon immensely in difficult cases. This is a special niche service that is provided by this institution
• FETAL INTERVENTIONS : The following Prenatal diagnostic and therapeutic interventions are performed in a sterile environment :
