For over 25 years, noninvasive cardiac imaging has been the mainstay of anatomic and physiological assessment in perinatal cardiology and congenital heart disease. Innovations in the field of echocardiography have led to noninvasive diagnosis of complex heart deformities that may evolve during the course of fetal development. Mediscan Systems the pioneers in ultrasound diagnostics hosted Fetal Echo and Perinatal Cardiac Morphology Symposium encompassing all ultrasound based imaging techniques used to assess structural and functional abnormalities of the fetal heart, which includes 2,3,&4 Dimentional imaging, as well as doppler imaging for hemodynamics and tissue motion.
The event happened on 20th and 21st Jan 2018 at Hotel Accord Metropolitan, T. Nagar, Chennai. Dr. Suresh Seshadri was the chairperson of the orgnising committee for this rich academic event and was organized by Mediscan Director Indrani Suresh and Dr. Shanthi, Head of Fetal cardiology Unit. In addition to its theme merits, the symposium is given 10 credit points of category II by The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University.
Renowned Cardiac Morphologist & International faculty Prof. Robert H Anderson from U.K was the main speaker and twenty National faculty from across five States shared their skills, knowledge and experience in all aspects of echo cardiography and cardiac morphology with their presentations and demonstrations. Dr.K.M. Cherian, one of the reputed cardiac surgeons in Chennai was felicitated as the guest of honour and his speech was mind blowing and inspirational for the audience. The same way Prof. Roberts special address transcended the expectations of everyone present, and they strongly registered their experience academically awesome and without a parallel at this point in time.. The guidance of mentors of each session was helpful in holding the sessions precisely in place with richly packed scientific content, in short time capsules. Over 313 delegates and 20 faculty participated in this highly rewarding up-to-date guidelines and learning sessions in Fetal Cardiology and morphology.
Veteran Cardiologist Dr. Kalyani Nithyanandan who was the principal person in establishing state’s first intensive coronary care unit in Chennai Royapettah Hospital was felicitated for her contributions in public health medical facility. On day I of the symposium, GE Healthcare demonstrated their Novel Technology Fetal Cardiac Imaging machines. followed by Sonoscape. On day II, Philip’s Healthcare took the stage for demonstration. All these high value presentations were very impressive for the professionals, as it would help improving their practice with latest technologies. Great volumes of study materials were available for the delegates for take home. The oral and E-posters of the Abstracts have been presented by the delegates and the prizes were distributed.

A press meet organized by Fetal Care Research Foundation, only one of its kind in India charity organization for fetal diagnostics and treatment was held and the media representatives wrote cles in their respective papers about preventing birth defects through prenatal screening and need for hospital based birth defects registry to understand, prevent and cure unborn babies and bring down infant mortality rate in our country.
The late evening of Day I was made extra special with the Cultural activities exhibited by the staff of Mediscan followed by a nice banquet. The feed back on the symposium was very encouraging and gratifying boosing the spirits of the Mediscan team.
The symposium was concluded on 21st January with vote of thanks of the organizing secretary, Dr.C. Shanthi.
